When you record with Roll, you can use the tools you already have to get awesome quality footage. In this article, we will focus on audio.
Here is our suggestion to get crisp, clean audio.
1. Wear headphones
If you are not wearing headphones, Roll automatically enables echo cancellation.
Echo cancellation prevents other participants' audio from bleeding into your microphone, and therefore prevents feedback and echo for everyone in the live session, as well as on your saved recording. Although echo cancellation is great for removing unwanted noises, it can add clipping and distortions.
When you wear headphones, your speakers are no longer outputting any audio so, Roll automatically disables echo cancellation. Recording with headphones lets your record crisp, clean audio without any clipping.
Remember to choose accurately based on your actual setup — if you've selected that you're wearing headphones but you're not, everyone will hear an echo.

2. Use a good microphone
By wearing headphones, you've already elevated your audio quality. Now when using your computer's built-in mic with headphones, you’ll notice an improvement over using it without.
You can further elevate your audio by using any external microphone to record a richer, more luxurious sound.
Most microphones that connect to your desktop will work effortlessly.
Here are a couple of helpful lists with great mic recommendations.
Recording with your phone and your desktop mic
When you're not wearing headphones, and you connect your phone to your recording session, you’ll be switched to the phone's camera and mic automatically.
If you want to record audio using your computer microphone, you will need to wear headphones connected to your computer – that will move audio to your computer and use the phone just for the video. To record video on your phone and audio using your desktop mic, follow these steps:
Connect headphones to your computer.
On your computer, join a live session.
On the sidebar, choose I'm wearing headphones.
Open the Roll app on your iPhone, or go to app.roll.ai on your Android and join the same call.
Log in with the same email as on your computer to connect devices.
Review your set up on your desktop sidebar:
Ensure that your speakers are set to your connected headphones.
Select the desktop mic that you want to use.
Since this is a sophisticated set up, we recommend that you run a short test recording to make sure everything looks good.
