When you're ready to record in Roll, you'll see a subtle circle around your head. That’s your composition guide - built to help you frame yourself like a pro with minimal effort.
Follow these simple tips to get a clean, professional look in every video.
🖼 Frame Your 1x Wide Shot
This is your base camera angle - used in every Roll recording.
Here’s how to get it right:
Center yourself in the frame
Keep your shoulders visible
Leave a small amount of space above your head
Make sure there’s nothing distracting in the background
Add depth to the scene if possible - larger objects or layered backgrounds look great and enhance visual effects
Stabilize your phone on a tripod or mount for the sharpest, steadiest recording
1X Wide Shot
Ensure nothing unwanted is in view in your wide.
More depth / large objects in scene = cooler VFX :)
🎯 Pro tip: A well-composed wide shot gives you better results across all angles and VFX effects, even if you're using just one camera.
🎥 MultiCam Setup (for Pro iPhones)
If your iPhone supports MultiCam, Roll can automatically capture both:
A 1x wide shot, and
A close-up telephoto shot (2x, 3x, 5x - depending on your iPhone)
To optimize your close-up:
Keep the same positioning as above: centered, shoulders visible, and a little space above your head
Don’t sit too close to the camera - give yourself room for depth and framing flexibility
(3x/2x) Tele / Closeup
Compose in the center with shoulders visible
with some space above the head
That’s it! Once you're framed up and steady, you’re ready to hit record with confidence.
