When you're ready to record in Roll, you'll see a subtle circle around your head. That’s your composition guide - built to help you frame yourself like a pro with minimal effort.

Follow these simple tips to get a clean, professional look in every video.

🖼 Frame Your 1x Wide Shot

This is your base camera angle - used in every Roll recording.

Here’s how to get it right:

  • Center yourself in the frame

  • Keep your shoulders visible

  • Leave a small amount of space above your head

  • Make sure there’s nothing distracting in the background

  • Add depth to the scene if possible - larger objects or layered backgrounds look great and enhance visual effects

  • Stabilize your phone on a tripod or mount for the sharpest, steadiest recording

Ensure nothing unwanted is in view in your wide.

More depth / large objects in scene = cooler VFX :)

🎯 Pro tip: A well-composed wide shot gives you better results across all angles and VFX effects, even if you're using just one camera.

🎥 MultiCam Setup (for Pro iPhones)

If your iPhone supports MultiCam, Roll can automatically capture both:

  • A 1x wide shot, and

  • A close-up telephoto shot (2x, 3x, 5x - depending on your iPhone)

To optimize your close-up:

  • Keep the same positioning as above: centered, shoulders visible, and a little space above your head

  • Don’t sit too close to the camera - give yourself room for depth and framing flexibility

Compose in the center with shoulders visible, with some space above the head

That’s it! Once you're framed up and steady, you’re ready to hit record with confidence.
